'Jingle Bells'은 1857년 추수감사절 노래로 만들어졌다가 크리스마스에도 불려지면서 대표적인 크리스마스 캐럴이 되었다고 하는데요, 생각보다 오래된 곡이지요? 크리스마스 캐럴들 중에는 찬송가에 수록되어 자주 불러 보았던 익숙한 노래 또한 많은데요~

18~19세기에 나온 곡들로 작사, 작곡한 이들이 정확하지 않거나 몇몇 곡들은 전해져 내려오던 멜로디에 가사를 붙여 불리며 여러 번의 수정 작업을 거치면서 현재 우리가 알고 있는 크리스마스 노래로 완성되었다고 하네요.
이 노래들이 전 세계 음악인들이 발표한 크리스마스 음반들에 가장 많이 수록되어 더 친근하게 된 이유는요, 저작권에서 자유로운 'Public Domain' 곡이면서도 세대가 바뀌어도 변하지 않는 크리스마스의 참 의미를 잘 표현해 주고 있기 때문이 아닐까요 ~ ^^;
